Ciara is a ceramic artist working primarily in stoneware. Her practice centres on wheel-thrown forms, which she decorates using the sgraffito technique — carving back through a layer of slip — to create intricate, layered surfaces.
Her imagery comes from the plant and animal life found close to her home in the Yorkshire Wolds, alongside influences from her Celtic heritage and traditional folk art. Together they give the work a strong sense of place, pattern and storytelling. After time away from ceramics to raise her family, Ciara has recently returned to clay with renewed focus. She holds a BA (Hons) in Fine and Applied Art, specialising in ceramics, from the University of Ulster, Belfast.
